ACQL is pleased to announce that the 2019 Barbara Godard Prize was awarded to Charlotte Comtois for her paper “Chroniques de l’intranquillité: lieux et précarité dans Le jeu de la musique de Stéfanie Clermont”.

Charlotte Comtois is a PhD candidate at the University of Sherbrooke. In her carefully crafted study of this recent collection of short stories, the winner broaches with great clarity such topical questions as gender fluidity, violence against women and gendered minorities, and the resulting spatial power dynamics. The jury especially appreciated the author’s use of gender-inclusive language as well as her use of innovative research by fellow emerging scholars and established scholars alike. Congratulations to the winner for this excellent paper!

The members of the jury were Élise Lepage (ACQL President, 2017-2019), Nicole Boudreau (University of Maine at Fort Kent), and Heather Macfarlane (Queen’s University).
